Fishin' for commissions

Through a fluke of facebook the other day I got in touch with an old colleague and was commissioned to make some wristbands for her (I had made her one a few years ago just for fun and for free)
She gave me artistic liberties, basically just telling me the colors she wanted along with the design, and this is what I came up with:

I'm very pleased and surprised with the results.
A word for the wise. Lightening bolts are really hard to draw on graph paper...

Belated post...

I made some collages for people for Valentine's day.
This post has been sitting as a draft on my blog for weeks now, because things weren't uploading fast enough for my short attention span...

For my grandmother

For my grandfather

Oh yeah, and I did this drawing for my bf.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I have a slew of knitting projects sitting in my corner now, they include a:
hat
sweater
scarf
flower
fingerless gloves

What I came here to talk about today though is the fingerless gloves in particular.

I came across a pattern for fingerless gloves knit on straight needles! I wasn't even looking for a straight needle pattern, but since I have a plethora of straight needles (and not so much with the round/dpn ) I decided to take on the challenge. Also I have wanted to master gloves (and socks, someday!) to add to my knitting repertoire.
So far they're coming out pretty well, I am learning a few new things...such as short rows...among other things.
I am using this yarn I got as a gift a few years ago. It came from geekpixie.etsy.com though it seems as though they have nothing for sale now...and I got this yarn awhile ago...anywho,
here are some pictures of my progression:

There is no wisdom greater than kindness.

So I am back to school.
I just spent the day cleaning and organizing my room, and it feels really good.
The way my dorm room is set up I have this little nook where the window is.
I had thought about putting this table I found over there, because I like to paint and draw with natural light, and I also wanted an excuse to sit where there is natural light, since the nook makes it hard for the rest of my room to get sun...
So I did it, and it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I also was creative with a cardboard tube from my new area rug and my door fringe ^_^
I like how it came out.

In other news, I only have one more class to go and I will have been to all my new classes.

Something very cool and unexpected happened the other day, in my expressive therapies class. We were doing group activities, lining up in order of things we like least and most, etc.

Anywho, this girl I've been in class with before was standing next to me at one point and she asked me what my last name was (we all had name tags on for first names) so I told her, and she said she just wanted to let me know that she had heard a lot of great things about me from people, and how everyone was always asking if she knew me. I was like "Oh, wow, thanks, who?" she said she couldn't remember who had said it, but that she just wanted to let me know.
It was so sweet, and made my day.

Inked! (Psyche!)

Alright kids, listen up.

Some friends of mine told me about a valentines day special at a tattoo parlor..somewhere, anywho.
The special is a heart tat or anything the size of a quarter for $20.
I was originally planning on waiting until the summer to get my first tattoo, but this was too good to pass up.

The images above are different versions of what I want to get...
The one on the left, done in ink, is the original idea I came up with a few years ago, and still have a soft spot for...
The one on the right, in pencil, is a redone design since the original doesn't look as cool on paper (I like the scanned version though...idk) Keep in mind that either way it will be in just black ink and all solid, if the pencil throws you off.

The revamp was my attempt at cleaning it up, I'm not sure how I like it though, still on the fence, but I am tired of drawing and redrawing eye-hearts at this point, so here's what I got.

Any suggestions?
