Renaissance Faire Costume

so, here ismy bodice, I bought it at the faire last year, cost me about $80
this is a dress I own that is too big for me, couldn't get the photo to rotate correctly..
this is that dress modified...to be tighter fitting, so far just safety pins holding it...thiswas my first idea, but I didn't like it very much...
my second idea, the first stage
I have this skirt that is too big and made out of linen
so far, so good, the orange dress, the paisley skirt and part of the linen skirt, the rest will become sleeves, and possible a bag...

still needs leggings and some boots, only 3 days to go! ah!

I still have 10 minutes before it's no longer February

Sooooo, the story goes that I started this beret back in December and then threw it at the wall in frustration, I picked it back up at the beginning of this month since it's pattern name is "February Beret" and I wanted to finish it in due time.
The only problem was that at the very end, when I could see the golden light, I ran out of yarn...exactly.
I took my trusty skein sleeve and went on the hunt, but it was to no avail, the brand (Brown Sheep) while still very active, no longer had the color/dye lot on their website, and I was only able to visit one of the locations that sold that brand and they did not have a color that came close enough to match.
Sad face.
And so I put my beloved/loathed project in a bag and tucked it away until I had more resources, until today.
So, I live on the East coast, and as many people might know we recently got hit with a pretty big storm, I am close(er) to the water so most of the storm for me was RAIN, lots, and lots and lots of RAIN.
That being said I had been keeping tabs with my roomie about the condition of our basement and the giant water mark on my ceiling...as I was away in the land of boyfriend during most of the madness.
Awesome roomie texted me yesterday before I came home to say we had had a little bit of water in the basement so I should check out my stuff just to be safe, so I did.
LO AND BEHOLD. In my random crap, most of it destined for yard sale, one glorious skein of the EXACT same yarn as I had been pining after!
Why was it in my yard sale bin? I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE.
I also don't know if it came along with the other skein my grandmother gave me, but I can only assume that that is the case!
Anywho! My beret is now FINISHED (done earlier than this post) and it was completed for it's due date! ^_^
Below you can see the progress, I'll post the finished piece once I block it (my first time to block something, too!)
(finally on DPNs!)

Things!

A real update! Hooray!

So, here is my February Beret, alas, sadly unfinished cause I ran out of yarn! :(
But, the good news! TOMORROW I am going to get MORE! Yay! ::dances:: thanks to my lovely boy and his access-to-car powers. :)
My hope is to have it done by Monday and then wear it proudly! (I'm excited, can y'tell??)

And heeeere are my rose-leaf lace glovelet things. I now have two, go me! Only a little bit of finishing to do on the second one, but you can't tell from this pic anyway.

Moving on! Here is my new project, just another pair of horse-shoe lace glovelets, BUT, I am making them for ME! More things knit for me?! What a novel idea! (I usually have a hard time knitting things for myself...)

Short post, more to come, I promise!

So, today's post will be short, and lack pictures and anything really fun...sigh

After a busy weekend, including a day trip to Maine with my sister and then a rush of activity yesterday...I am lacking pictures of my most recent endeavors, and also missing pictures I took since my sister and I switched camera memory cards on Friday cause hers was full, and her camera is nicer than mine so she was in charge of documenting our adventure. That said, my memory card, with a few pics of my latest V-day get up (completely revamped from what I last posted) is about 100 miles away, at the mercy of my sister.

And yes, the question is asked "Why don't I take new pictures?" well the answer is simple, my camera is sucktastic and the only decent pictures I get happen when I have natural lighting...and now it is night time, and therefore only crap pictures can be taken (I hate using flash, it washes out all my colors...)

So, there you have it, no pictures. But here are the updates on my projects.

February Beret: I cam SO close to finishing it and ran out of yarn. Luckily the yarn company it came from is still in booming business, I just need to wait for the opportunity for access to a car to arise...

Envelope Afghan: Not much more work, , maybe a row...yeah just a row, the needles I am using for it are really awful cheap circulars and the tips are extremely blunt, so they're difficult to use without getting annoyed.

Rose-Leaf Lace Glovelets: I have finished the second glove and only have to do a bit more weaving in of the ends before they are good to go! If anyone is actually reading this keep and eye out for them in my etsy shop!

V-day Get-up: After finishing the top I have come to the conclusion that I made it too small, not that my boobs are just too big for anything without a wire...So I dropped it and found a new pattern on Threadbangers for a bikini top, might not still be the best for my situation, but I think it will give better support and coverage than the knitty pattern. I also switched out the yarn for a doubled combo of some silky black yarn made from Merino wool and acrylic something or other...and this random, thin, kind of fuzzy pink/white gradient yarn I got from my ex-boyfriends mother who used to crochet everything. The ball of it is MASSIVE (one of the pictures on my vagabond memory card) and I've been looking for a use for it for 3 + yrs...

The END!

Projects abound!

Hello!
Today, class, we shall look at my projects as of late.

Here we can see my project list, keep in mind this list is only my knitting projects...the following sheets on this legal pad include other project lists, such as sewing, metal/bead work, misc., organizing...etc.
But, my knitting list is by far the longest, this picture doesn't even show the most up to date (even though I took it moments ago!) as I still have a few projects on there I forgot about and need to now add...::scribbles::
First up is my "February Beret" that pattern is from SockPixie. I actually started this back in early December 2009, but a combination of looming finals, and the fact that I kept fudging the lace pattern and ripping back rows of lace (and actually saving ALL of the stitches in a scenario like this is like a complete mind-fuck) I threw it in a pile/box and left it there until I had my brain cells back.
I restarted this past Friday, ripped it back to the I-cord brim and started fresh, picking up all those 126 stitches and then increasing to 189 for the pattern. So far I've only had to rip back once, and all went well, so I am still sane. I hope to have it done sometime before February ends, and it can keep it's namesake (ignoring it's December birth and January reincarnation...)

Next is the "Envelope Afghan" which can be found here. I have a ton of cheap yarn I bought at Ocean State a few years ago when I first began knitting, at the time I made a sweater with the blue and brown colors, but I also ended up with a ton of pink, red and purple (the purple which became a poncho for a friend) so I have some purple left over, and some red, and a LOT of pink. It's very warm yarn, though, and so, despite it's extremely fake quality I decided it should become a blanket. Unfortunately it's probably going to be a very pink blanket. Sigh.

Here is my pride & joy at the moment. After making a few pairs of the Cranford Mitts I decided to try my hand at creating my own hand-warmer/glovelet pattern. And so this was born, I only have one a the moment, as you can see, but I am very proud of it! They are a bit snug (though I have pretty small hands for a person my size) but once I have completed a second one I may put them up for sale in my Etsy Shop and then continue experimenting! They are made from Patons Angora Bamboo yarn, which is very soft and also a bit pricey (for me, I am frugal). In either case I am pleased and excited. Also my shop needs something pretty and worth selling!

And last, but not least, this bra/bikini top. The pattern is from Knitty, though as you can see I have modified it a bit, using two colors instead of one. I don't think I've ever followed a pattern exactly, aside from the first sock I knit, but in the end I ran out of yarn so it remains unfinished...and finishing was part of the pattern...so...
Anywho, this is the beginning of my Valentines get-up ^_^ there are few loose ends I need to weave in (seen here) and then I have to finagle the elastic and hooks for the back (probably won't use the Knitty suggestion and improvise with things I have...) and ALSO I will be attempting to make a bottom to match, which I will have to pull out of my own head, so stay tuned!

Alright, that's all for now!

Peace.

Major Update of Doooooom! That's right, DOOM.

So, it's been a awhile... a few months short of a year. FAIL.

Now, while I don't usually make New Year Resolutions (having completely forgotten they even existed since maybe the age of 10...) I do have long term goals that I am always adding to...and adding to...
Updating this is one of them. So here we gooooooooooooooo!

Anywho!

I changed the name of the blog to keep up with my little "company," if you could call it that.
I created the name a few years ago, the story behind it is that in my carry-along sewing kit I have a small box of pins my grandmother gave to me and they all have yellow heads. They're just seem, to me, to be the perfect size pin, the heads aren't too small
or too big, and they're just so bright and visible!
Anyway, I digress, I use them for all my sewing projects, and thus, "Yellow Pin Projects"
ignoring the fact that most of my work these days has been knittin
g...it's quite catchy, doncha think?

Now for pictures!
Here are a few things I've done since last we met.

Some knitting!

Some collaged bookmarks I made for work (I work in a library)

More holiday knitting!

Also in recent news:
*I hung up some flyers offering cheap knitting lesson and have had one client so far (since all the flyer boards have been cleaned off in the last month or so...)
*My good friend Camille is going to make me business cards, well new ones...I have some handmade ones kickin' around that are just
embarrassing... I am also getting free yarn from Camille's mother, hooray!
*I bought more yarn the other day to have a larger variety of colors for the lacy handwarmer you see there, made for Camille, I need my own pair now! Must have!

Ok, that's enough rambling for today.
